Echoing

Have you ever heard

the song of the Universe

echoing through morning

as deer walk past the pond

on an ordinary May Day?

Bounding

A few days ago I watched as a deer

bounded across the road

and ran by the pond 

skirting around its edge

as it went on its way

What was its hurry

What was the danger

Where did it feel safe 

I wonder these things

and know those answers

are not for me to have

Not everything 

should be known

Let there be mystery

in the small corners 

of this world

Winter Hour

Where are the deer at this hour in winter?

Where do they go for warmth?

Do they feel this cold as we do?

They have not all disappeared.

I wish to know but I must settle

for in complete knowledge

at least for know

We are not meant

to know all.
