There is joy
There is happiness
in all the small things
in our lives

Your Mileage May Vary

You are the master of your own happiness
but do you actually understand what
that truly means?

Happiness is not an object of scarcity
that has come into your possession.

Happiness is not pure bodily pleasure.

Happiness is a chameleon as it bounds
through us all.

Happiness can endure change because
it is malleable.

Happiness is not what we hold on to,
it is what we give away.

You are asking yourself
"What makes you think you know
what happiness is?

I don't.

I know what I believe it to be.

YMMV.

Your happiness is out there
and you are living it
For that I am glad

On Happiness

Does my happiness exist in the company of others?
Does my happiness exist in my solitude?
It does and it doesn't.
It exists and it comes and goes as it pleases.
There are times of endless tedium
when it skirts along the edges of my life.
My happiness exists and for that I am glad.
Does your happiness keep you company
on nights uncertainty?
Does your happiness show itself to you
in little bits at random times?
Human, oh so human.
If truth be told
I worry about my happiness
from time to time.
Yet for all my worry
I have never believed that my happiness
would leave and never return to me.
It is my companion through
the undulating waves of this life.
It has it's own moods
but I don't begrudge it that.
I do not expect my happiness
to solve the problems of my life.
I work on it the problems as much
as I can. I try to let my happiness grow
in small ways that enrich my soul.
I wish my life and yours
to be filled with as much happiness
as we can reasonably embrace.

Your Happiness

We are each searching for our own happiness.
Happiness is a personal thing in how we come
to define it. We have all felt happiness and we
have felt it's opposite. Happiness, much like all
states of mood and mind, is a passing phase.
This is by no means a negative. The peaks of
happiness give contour and definition to our
lives. If it were possible to live in a state of
endless happiness one would lose sight
of what it once felt like. We find happiness
in every possible place if we will ourselves
to do so. Sometimes there is fear that if we
lose this state that we might be unable to
attain it once more. That is untrue. There are
many paths to this state and there are many
false paths as well. The wisdom we must
each seek to attain is the ability to discern
true happiness from false or fleeting facsimiles
of it. Alcohol, drugs, sex, can all be abused
into creating a fleeting sense of fulfillment.
Yet, it is not. To plunge into the depths of
these is to abuse them and what they are
meant to be. Happiness can absorb these
but they are not pure happiness unto
themselves. Spirit, mind, heart, are all
keystones in happiness.

You'll be happier when
you're not so sad.

In Search Of

My happiness is a fleeting thing content
to land on my shoulder from time to time.

I do not shoo it away as it rests upon me.
It sits and looks this way and that.

Often I wonder what it can see that I cannot.
When it takes flight I watch it into the distance

and wonder where it goes, what it sees.
Sitting, waiting, I cannot let idleness overcome me.

There is time yet to put on shoes
to walk beneathe the sun,

to wander under moonlight.

On Happiness

Not everything you think will make you happy
will actually make it so. In fact, some of these
things may actually impede happiness.

Life is a long drawn out process that forces us
to be able to discern between the two.

Kindness and Happiness

Sell your kindness
for a penny and never collect.

Is this happiness of choice
or convenience?

There is a particular wisdom
in understanding that
we should not be happy
all of the time.

Even The Turkey Could Say Nothing

She had the nerve to ruin dinner
by telling everyone she was dropping
out of school and moving to Vermont
to live in a small town.

She said she couldn't see the point
in education anymore. Everything
she ever learned she had forgotten,
or so she said.

Her Mother cried, her Father fumed
and the Turkey sat on the table
without a word. Her parents thought
her to be selfish but she disagreed.

How could they be so upset,
she wondered to herself. Don't they
want me to be happy? Don't they
want me to find my path?

It was then she learned how differently
we measure happiness. The turkey
could express no further disapproval
as it was carved away from existence.

Happiness & Judgment

Being judgmental of the happiness of others
reveals a greater truth about us then of those
being judged.

a measure of happiness

I asked her once how
often she masturbated
and was surprised
when she said
at least once a day.
She laughed a little
after she told me,
I laughed as well.
I remember thinking
that women
didn't masturbate
as often as men.
I don't know
how I could have
held that thought,
but I did.
We haven't seen
each other in a very
long time.
She's been married
and from what
I've gathered-
recently divorced.
I hope she continues
to bring herself
happiness
because this world
doesn't always
spread it
as evenly as
it should.

E without the accent mark

My Happiness lives by the ocean,
she is beautiful.

I don't wish to sound so cliche
but I supposed it's hard to sound cliche
without the appropriate accent mark
over the 'e'. In lieu of sounding cliche
I wish to say nothing of worth.
I wish to say that my time on this world
has been spent searching for something
beautiful that I have yet to define.
I know I have found it when my skin
bumps with geese, when my eyes close
yet see the world I have been seeking
with no map. I don't wish to sound
so scatterbrained but it beats having
no brain at all. I wish to not have to justify
my existence through socially defined
confines of worth. I don't recall seeing
crocodiles clocking in for work.
When I sit in traffic I marvel at red lights
marking my slow way forward. Other
creatures like myself sit, wait, wonder,
and hope to sit home, either alone or
with someone worth whiling the time
away with. I know she waits for me,
though, at this time we occupy two
places, for now.

My Happiness lives by the ocean,
I will go to her.

Hap

My happiness expands and contracts
because it is not a static thing.

My happiness doesn't care what it wears
as long as it is comfortable.

My happiness is experienced but not
blind to the world.

My happiness is ok with being sad
from time to time.

My happiness doesn't read comments
attached to online articles.

My happiness drives the speed limit.

My happiness is sure of itself.

My happiness prefers not to drink.

My happiness loves to be with others.

My happiness isn't sappy.

My happiness is ok with being hungry.

My happiness likes the way a kiss feels.

My happiness smiles when her hand
touches its skin.

My happiness is content to be alone
at home while the world spins in orbit.

The Two of Us

My happiness is not in a bottle
to be poured down my throat.

My happiness is not edible
and meant for consumption.

My happiness is a creature
I discover anew each day.

My happiness does not like it
when I speak of it in these terms,

it prefers to be in my company
as often as it can afford to do so.

My happiness and I get along
but we do fight from time to time.

My happiness grows and changes
with me, shows me the constant

shift in light, tells me how
my shadow walks with me at night

when I believe it to be gone.
My happiness is learning

and it teaches me as it goes.
My happiness is.

Feeling It

If you cannot let yourself feel happiness

as it occurs to you,

then what, if anything,

do you have to look forward to?
