midnight run

I was running
I was being chased
My heart was pounding
I could feel it behind me
I keep moving
I kept going down the stairs
Floor by floor
trying to get to safety
until at last I woke up
and began to steady myself
to let my breath guide me back

Divination

Have you wondered about your dreams?
Have you wondered why they disappear
into the mists of morning?
Why do dreams not linger longer than
mere minutes?
Is it necessary for us to dream?
What are we seeing?
What are we living in this state?
It is much too pervasive
to be nothing more than nothing.
There is something.
There is some reason.
We cannot explain away
everything in this world
through reason alone.
My mind wonders.
My mind wanders.
What could it be?
I could tell you what I think
but you'd be right to disregard me.
Perhaps I should let you wonder.
This dreaming will not leave us.
It will move with us through
states of life, showing us
what must be shown.
Divine meaning from images.
Read the lines in your palms.
Read the leaves in your tea.
You will be closer
than you have ever been.

No Stranger

A cup of coffee first thing after waking

A dream with an estranged friend

the two of us walking

talking through an evening

rediscovering what we had set aside

The morning air leaves the branches

shivering like skeletal bodies

What doors open at first light

How long do they remain open

Who passes through

What strangers come to you

Fusion

Wake up when you wake up
when you wake up
wake up

Consciousness has been here
even when you weren't

Images take on life in abstract
palette tones

Memory fuses with unconscious
desire

An imagined life lived in unseen
places

Say the word 'sky' and purple
colored horizon emerges

over a land of kaleidoscope
colors

begging to exist but too beautiful
for this world

Gray hazy morn greets your
open eyes

Imagined memories will not
leave you

Yet was it truly imagined

if memory remains

by morning

Morning Thoughts 5/6/17

Need and desire to transcend

Drifting along on ocean currents
Shore comes into view
Swim to land or keep riding the tides

You wake and wonder
if it is the same dream over and over
Waking in a small town
Home of your parents and grandparents
Rising from a hammock into
the warmth of morning
Birds greet you from the trees
as the bell in the town square tolls the hour
These images comfort you
Home or a place like it
You are still yourself no matter where

It is the errand of a fool to believe
that ignoring the world,
ignoring the self
is any way to live well.
It is not. It cannot be the way.
Too many fall into this trap
of false security.
The self is always there
no matter what.
We must face ourselves
with open honesty.

The Dream, Part 3

As the boat continued past the gnarled root I began
to wonder what it had been part of. What kind of
life had once existed here. I gazed into the distance
and saw nothing else like for some time. Right before
I was going to lay down I once again saw the familiar
shaped of a gnarled root come into view. It was not
merely a root this time. A submerged field of these
roots lay ahead. The boat continued on. Once we
were close it became apparent that the boat was
going to enter this labyrinth of roots. I was worried
at first but the boat began to steer through as easily
as it were still moving in a straight line. I looked at
all the roots in their various twists and formations.
There was an odd beauty to them I could not resist.
How long we moved through this I do not know.
It can't be known. After much time I saw something
loom further ahead. Something that seemed at once
familiar but unknown. There at the far reach was a
magnificent tree whose trunk was a large and vast
thing. It's roots stretched in all directions. There was
something I had not seen in all this time- light.
There was a window and door hewn into the vast
body of the tree and light was burning warm and
bright. The boat began to slow as it grew closer.

The Dream, Part 2

And so I drifted. I drifted until I did not know if it
was possible to drift any more. I do not know if time
existed, if I drifted for days, weeks, or years. I could
have drifted for decades and felt the same. I never
felt hunger or pain. I existed purely adrift. The waters
never moved beyond the small rippling wake behind
me as the boat and I moved through. There was never
anything to see beyond the horizon. It was as though
it were a world of pure water. The water was devoid
of fish or any creatures that I could see. When I grew
sick of watching the water I would watch the vast
uninterrupted sky. A gray that neither felt brooding
nor welcoming. It stared with the unblinking eye of
whatever gods claimed this world. After an unknowable
amount of time passed at last something came into view
from the horizon. It was an odd shape jutting from the
water. Once I was closer I was able to see that it was
the gnarled root of something that may have been a
tree. The boat did not stop. It continued along as if
there was a more important place to be.

If you fall in love
In a dream
Do you fall in love
In real life?

To Listen

I dream in colors
appearing
and blending
as though they
were a sea of
shifting tides
giving birth to
one another.

The sea within me
moves and grows
as I learn to
listen to it's
songs. I do not
always understand
the language it
speaks but I know
I must listen.

When the voice
speaks it speaks
in measured tone
so it can be
understood.
Calling to me
in a faintness
almost over
powered
by wind
I close my eyes
and find
the words
it seeks
to give me.

The Strangeness of Dreams

To wake and remember
a dream is a rarity
What from these subconscious
worlds haunts us
compels us
and takes on the name
for our highest expectations
of ourselves
To occasionally glimpse
a world alien
or a world strangely
familiar in ways
words often fail
What are we telling ourselves
What do the unseen voices
of the farthest planes
wish us to infer
To wake
to sleep
so often do we
traverse this distance
do we know
where this moment is?

Dreams from the Unborn World

Uncertain Dreamer

Last night I dreamt
but woke up
and couldn't remember
anything.

How often does this
happen? Far more
often than any of us
could know.

I'm awake but unsure
yet I still breathe.
My body keeps me
living still.

Perhaps I should pray
not for me but
for those who have
passed on from here.

I feel sad and uncertain
but I'm trying to
steel my spirit and
prepare for the struggle.

There can be no end
to the fight for progress.
Did I dream of your face?
I can't say for certain.

fathomless dreams limited only by ambition and ability

Her eyes and her dreams are
the same thing.

Waste Your Life

Waste the hours of daylight
and moonlight
whenever possible

Lounge about as though
you are bored royalty

Wake up and stay in bed
Daydream as soon as possible

Rise only when necessary
Travel to a secluded beach
and empty conscious thought

Fall in and out of love everyday
Let your heart be broken wisely

Listen more intently than necessary
Speak only as a last resort

Embrace the creative act
Participate as often as possible

If a muse should appear
Be grateful and follow

Until the world has exhausted itself
And new life springs from ash

Adulthood

Dream your life into being
Simplicity of thought
Action left to the movement of body
Ambition both impetus and limiter
Dual-hearted chest beating steady
May long these lungs expand and contract
Found you buried in subconscious places
You asked where I had been
Nothing could be said
Marveled at your form before me
Watched your lips move
Though I could find no words
A simple life would be fine
If we were both there
If we could cease
These dreams
Life doesn't always work
The way we believe it should
That is for the best
We sit apart by our own choices
This is fine
I still dream
Time to time

Scattered Thoughts All Gathered Together (evening - 6/4/16)

Interpretations of Reality

Create the world you wish through selective perception

Change and Realignment

Consciousness moving through an eternal present of possibility

Beauty as a sign of temporary attraction

What is everlasting?

The Business of Life & Loss

How to Move On Without Ever Letting Go

How quickly we move from disappointment to acceptance.

These late nights move through us
as we move through them

Memories of distant possibilities are nothing more
than snow melting in the noon time sun.

Better to let some memories gather dust.

we were done and
that was it
and that was that

My back is nothing more than
bone and flesh
and can be broken
far more easily
than I care to admit

What is fit to be buried and what
is fit to be kept?

Desire and Reason rarely have anything in common.

I need some silence to balance out all the noise in my life.

No reason to be awake
yet you cannot fall asleep
so you stay up until
the night takes you

One must look past mere physical beauty to find substance

Enraptured by her beauty
I became a slave to an ideal
that no one else could
ever hope to match

Can we ever find the beach that has no end?

When all you want to do is talk
and the night is late
and the glass is empty
but everyone else is gone
or asleep
so you sit alone
and hope the words
will find you

I would have loved you if
you ever gave me the chance

Only the dead are free.

Like the silence that stretches across the desert at midnight.

The restlessness of the soul.

Let the page feed your spirit.

We let each other go as gently
as a breathe being exhaled.

Broken Teeth and Bloody Tongues

The Overlap of Dreams

Sueno pero recuerdo
lo que tuve recordar

Shadows that exist only at night.

There was never anything to hold onto
but we clung to another
as though nothing could tear us apart

My broken bones
cannot be reset
I grow together
fractured and imperfect

The illusion of choice
The choice of illusion

These lonely nights of worry
Where are you right now
Don't worry
I'm just here trying to breathe

Tie Your Dreams To The Passing Wind

Friday, December 11, 2015

No Dreams

I do not dream so
I do not live
I die
more and more
with little to
no effort
I do not dream
I do not wake
or have I been
wide eyed
all along

A life of dreaming is not a life wasted
as much as a multiple of lives lived.
