An Inconvenient Gift

Liquid life falls around us,

permeating,

expanding wood.

Torsos covered well,

heads beneath

cap and cloth.

Socks soak moisture

too readily

leaving feet

too damp

to be comfortable.

Small curses made and muttered

hastily as bodies flee

from doorway to

motor carriage.

Breath fogs glass

as a journey begins.
