Where You Used To Be

as the sun runs to me,

I remember

the afternoons melting

into the horizon.

a painted canvas of expansive

blue blends into darker tones

as memory fills in the blanks

with sweet fiction.

they mingle, copulate

and fill space.

The Course Of Empire

Well tread paths

fade into the encroachment

of natures tendrils.

Carved edifices stand in silence,

nimble fingers are exposed

as bleached white bone

disconnected from the lives

that gave them birth.

Your face emerges timidly

amongst the ruins.

Collapse crashes in silence,

the flock takes flight

as your nimble limbs

gallop through green

and well covered marble.

An act of instinct

seeking only to preserve

the fleeting gift.

Limbs slow

as focus returns.

A space emptied

then filled once more.

"You Don't Understand A Thing I Say"

Ears listening in silence

Expect nothing from Expectation.

We hide behind mirrors and live in front of glass.

Our battles are fought within reduced confines.

Love and admiration becoming a perversion of themselves.

For The Girl In London

I.

Standing on the pier, the surf foams below you.
Ripples on the surface result in a surging momentum.
Facing the peninsula, wind whipping your hair.
You stand at the edge of the world.
A voyage in the internal landscape
leading to cross continental expansion.

II.
Don't be sad.

Tears of mixed joy and grief.

As we said goodbye

you held me close

in your inebriated embrace,

finding reciprocity in mine,

we became the people we had always

been to each other in full.

The Usefulness Of Others

Only we can provided each other
with what we both need. An exch
ange born from an understood n
eed, an abstained desire. We fulf
ill the need of our selves and bad
e the encroaching shadows away.
A deal too good to be true, the gl
oss wears off as morning breache
s the darkness again. - - - - - - - -

IT'S COMPLICATED

IT'S such an easy out for the undefinable

emotional ambiguousness we feel

between opaque relations. A contraction

(it is = it's) and an adjective (complicated),

it is defined as "consisting of parts intricately

combined," or as "difficult to analyze, understand,

or explain." A thread loosening, then unraveling

the garment, disintegrating into its component

pieces. The bridge is crossed, we watch it collapse

into the gorge, falling out of frame and perspective.

Perpetual

The world would crumble if

we called it a day in our relentless pursuits.

Mad and ravenous for the element

elusive to our lesser peers.

Salvation or decimation

will be found through it.

With this

we are content.

The Function Of Memory

Freezing beauty

one moment at a time,

a flash which passes in an instant.

Captured like a tiger behind bars.

It paces back and forth,

to and fro,

back and forth,

back and forth,

to and fro.

Pacing paws wield well worn paths of familiarity.

It rests in discontent waiting to spring forth

in a moment that may never come.

Another Goodbye For Another

life is a series of

endless goodbyes

we repeat

ad nauseam.

this will be

no different,

no different

than before.

when it is said

when it is done

you will be gone,

I will be here.

it's so much better

to see your face

beaming bright

saying "hello."

I am honey dripping from the comb.

Bad People

Worn out platitudes

drip from well worn throats

like sap running down a tree.

The empty gaze of

muted intelligence,

hands too clumsy to

be good at anything.

Sit,

those big

empty brown eyes

looking into me,

pleading,

imploring,

for something

I can never give.

In Her(e) The World Begins

In Her The World Begins

In Here The World Begins

We listen but don't hear what we need to, only what we wish to.

A four letter word, broken like a coffee mug, shattered upon the floor.

An emptiness even that cannot fill.

If they only knew what I know.

Love? So you claim.

Waiting for the sun in these dying hours.

Strangers sharing connection.

Menagerie

Those I've left behind

wait for me

like figurines

in a glass menagerie.

stillborn,

Sprawled Out With No Reason In Order

Bound and underground

the sound will drown

this town.

I am only real when you aren't here.

The missing piece
has remained as much.

Reality is a drag when you have lived what I have lived.

The quiet desperation found in most lives
is enough to fill a gorge with tears.

Because you're not here.

The Sunshine For What It's Worth.

Your only regret is the biggest regret one could have.

You dress your disappointments in amber
and watch them beneathe your guilded canopy.

Feelings too fleeting

The Empty Embrace.

This will do for now.
I want more,
expect more.

An Inconvenient Gift

Liquid life falls around us,

permeating,

expanding wood.

Torsos covered well,

heads beneath

cap and cloth.

Socks soak moisture

too readily

leaving feet

too damp

Small curses made and muttered

hastily as bodies flee

from doorway to

Breath fogs glass

Hear Knows When

Floating on the wind

You Don't Even Have To Say It To Know

You Don't Even Have To Say It To Know
It comes down to this: ___ .

Is ___ all we are looking for?

Is ___ all you want from me?

Is ___ all I want from you?

Is ___ all we need to forget?

___ is decidedly under/over rated.

Everyone has ___ on their mind

if not all, then at least some of the time.

___ is a very basic thing.

But when ___ is happening,

the world ceases,

we become the creatures

of natures intent.

Trees

Trees

You stripped the branches of their leaves
and thought about
how empty they seemed.

You sawed the branches from the trunk
and wondered
where the shade went.

You cut down the trunk
and wondered
where you would climb.

You pulled the stump from the ground
and wondered
where you would sit.

You looked around
and wondered,
what's next?

Shearing

It falls softly on the sink.

Strands and Clumps

gather at the edge of the basin.

Vibrations make my hand unsteady,

shaking in anxiety,

fearing my own image.

Mirror shows the

shearing in progress.

Skin exposed, moist,

soft after hiding all these years.

Cascading downward,

making no sound

it grows bigger.

My trembling hand

reaches,

touches skin.

It's not so bad.

Paper guides the years into a pile,

dumps them into the wastebasket.
