there is the matter of cause and effect
in relation to the past and present.
the present is a pair of blinders
strapped to our heads obscuring 
the view of what is to come.
when the past is viewed in light 
of the present the blinders come 
off rarely but do offer a modicum
of understanding not always attained
in the present.
